School Holiday Fun

Free Computer Workshops @ Gordonvale Library
Cairns Libraries will be running free one hour Computers for Beginners workshops at Gordonvale Library on the 2nd Friday of the month, commencing 10th September 2010. The workshop times are 10.15am and 11.30am. The workshops will introduce participants to the Cairns Libraries Online Training Courses which can be used at any of the branch libraries or via the Cairns Libraries website. Free Computer Workshops @ City Library
Cairns Libraries run free computer workshops every Wednesday at the Cairns City Library from 10.30 am to 11.30 am.The workshops introduce participants to the Cairns Libraries Online Training Courses which can be used at the libraries or via the Cairns Libraries website. Subjects covered by the Online Training Courses include introductory information about computers, how to search the Internet, how to send email, Microsoft Word/Excel/PowerPoint/Outlook 2007, Microsoft Vista, and social networking tools. Dewey's Star Reading Club Passports
Cairns Libraries has created a special reading passport just for junior members! Kids can pick up a Dewey's Star Reading Club Passport from any branch of Cairns Libraries and get it stamped each time they borrow. When their passport is full they can swap it for a new one and go in a monthly prize draw!

New Library Kiosk@Port
A new Library Service has opened in Port Douglas. The Library Kiosk @ Port operates three days per week and offers complimentary access to the internet for Library members and free access to Cairns Libraries online computer catalogue. Operating hours are Tuesday 1 - 5 pm, Thursday 9 am - 1pm and Friday 9am - 1pm.
The Library Kiosk @ Port has replaced the previous Mobile Library service to Port Douglas. The Mobile Library Service that had been operating in Douglas for the last twenty years no longer met the standards required by the State Library of Queensland and ceased operation at the end of February.
Playaways are here!
Cairns Libraries offer the next generation of Audio Books. Each Playaway comes with the digital content already pre-loaded on it. No cassettes. No CDs. No Downloads. Just insert a AAA battery, plug in a standard set of headphones and enjoy! The Playaway collection is on trial and there is limited stock. Cairns Libraries hope you enjoy the new collection and welcomes any feedback.
